Introducing a New Kind of HRA

With health care costs continuing to escalate, employers have found short-term fixes by implementing higher deductibles, copayments and employee contributions. Unfortunately, these temporary fixes don't resolve the root of the problem; the poor lifestyle choices of unhealthy individuals. Inadequate diet, lack of exercise, smoking, obesity and stress are prime factors in 80% of chronic health problems and a major contributor at rising health care costs.

Fortunately, these costs can be significantly controlled when individuals take charge of their own well-being. We're pleased to introduce Healthy Rewards, a new kind of Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) that works in conjunction with a High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Best for employer groups of 50 or more, Healthy Rewards motivates participants to get healthy by rewarding them with lower deductibles as they decrease their personal health risk in five critical categories:

  • Body mass index (BMI)
  • Blood pressure
  • Cholesterol
  • Smoker/non-smoker
  • Blood sugar

How Healthy Rewards Works
  1. Each participant is required to have a Health Affidavit* completed by their physician on an annual basis certifying healthy ranges in up to five of the categories listed above. Employers may require each participant and their spouse to have a completed Health Affidavit.
  2. The results of the Health Affidavit have a direct correlation to HRA contribution levels. For example, an employer may adopt a $2,000.00 deductible and then attach a credit to each of the five categories. The reward credit can be $400 for each category that's certified within a healthy range or any amount in which the employer feels comfortable. (Participants who do not complete a Health Affidavit do not qualify for rewards.)
  3. A participant presents their health care card at the place of service as they normally would.
  4. Claims are adjudicated by the health plan carrier, and an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is generated and sent to the participant.
  5. The participant then submits the EOB to eBenefits Administrators.
  6. The HRA reimbursement is submitted back to the participant based upon the reward credits for which they've qualified.

*The Health Affidavit and Summary Plan Documents for Healthy Rewards have been drafted and approved by our UBA partner, Fisher and Phillips.

Benefits
Savings for everyone - not only do participating employees receive significant savings on their deductibles, the employer dramatically reduces costs by utilizing an HDHP which lowers premiums. In addition, healthy individuals tend to use their health plans less, which may result in additional long-term savings for the employer.

Comprehensive Administration
eBenefits Administrators provides complete, comprehensive administration of HRA services. Our experienced team effortlessly navigates the complex world of HRAs, taking care of enrollment, account set-up, implementation, education, staff training and account administration with a variety of reimbursement options. Before an HRA is implemented, we make certain the plan passes discrimination testing as required by the IRS. We perform this testing throughout the year to account for the addition and deletion of employees for consistent plan maintenance.

We also provide an employer with all the necessary legal documentation they need to ensure the plan is IRS compliant. Most importantly, we give employees the personalized support they need to understand and utilize all of the advantages an HRA offers. An employee can simply pick up the phone or email us any time they have a question or concern.
